Also ticketing reckless drivers is another way that police officers protect society. Even ticketing a speeding driver helps protect by reducing accidents caused by careless drivers. Everyday police arrest suspects for an array of charges including drunk driving, drug possession, or just because they skipped court. Making an arrest can be the most difficult part of a police officers job, and it can also be the most dangerous one. Sometimes people will just give up knowing that they can’t get away, but there are those few that think they can flea and run from the police. After an arrest an officer is in charge of making sure that the suspect is properly booked into a correctional facility or jail. Booking a suspect is a very important part of an officers job. Police officers must contend a very well search before putting a suspect into a jail community. This is needed so that no one can sneak drugs or weapons into jail. There are many dangers as a police officer. Most officers wake up every day hopping to make it home safe that night but not knowing if they will. Sometimes suspects will shoot at officers, or if an officer is in a chase, he/she can get into a serious car accident resulting in hospitalization or even death. In other words this means that police officers must be very sharp and be able to make wise decisions at any moment. Most citizens obey the law and live normal lives, but police must obey the law and be good citizens. Basically police officers are role models for their community.
