I think Shakespeare wanted to depict this scene as a bloody one because after MacBeth kills Duncan, he feels extremely guilty. He makes many references during the duration of the play with regards to the bloodiness of what he has done. The blood is mentioned numerous times as a sign that he made a bloody mess of hid friend Duncan. The end battle is a prime example of Polanski making the movie much more bloody and graphic than the original play did, but with purpose. I feel that Polanski made the modifications to the play because of the time period he lives in. Polanski realized that Shakespeare although classics and timeless pieces of literature are still boring. It is also my opinion that he realized that his film would be used for teenagers to watch and that it wouldn’t be a huge box office hit. I feel he added a little gore to the film so that it would prove interesting to a far more censored time period. Shakespeare was such a talented writer that he was able to focus the play more on other aspects such as the actual tragedy. Although the movie focused on the movie it had other points such as the violence to keep the people watching interested. Shakespeare was able to avoid the bloodiness as much as possible because he focused on the tragedy of the play.
