Personal Statement for Law School

Problem solving through logic and reasoning has always been a strength of mine; it would have been nearly impossible to make it through my major if this were not the case. Also, my scientific background puts me in a unique position as a law student to excel in areas of law that deal with technology, such as copyright, patent, and intellectual property law, as well as issues stemming from recent scientific developments such as the internet and genetic engineering. On a personal level, I was raised to value honesty and integrity in all dealings with other people, and to treat others with respect. These personal qualities are imperative in becoming a strong, upstanding lawyer, as well as an asset to the academic community. In addition, I have always been taught that the key to success is hard work, whether in an academic or professional setting, and this lesson has caused me to form an excellent work ethic, which will help me fully apply myself while in law school, as well as afterwards. I have reached a point in my life where I am serious about my future career, and the opportunity to go to law school is one that I will not squander, both for my future success, and personal desire to do my best. I have seriously considered a career in law since high school. My experiences on our school's mock trial team drew me to law. Although an extremely simplified version of trial advocacy, I really enjoyed the challenges involved in analyzing the given evidence and developing cogent arguments based upon that evidence. When I graduated high school, I had planned to continue on the road to law school by becoming a history major. However, I couldn't help being drawn to a scientific field.
