... Industry & Commerce Newspaper. Six months later, I was assigned to report on the ˇ®99 Chongqing Investment & Trade Fair, one of the most important events in Chongqing City. I was to interview foreign VIPs attending the Fair, including Mr. Larry. E. Power, then the VP of Motorola China. At that time, rumors about the disrupted cooperation between Chongqing and Motorola spread rapidly. Nonetheless, the appearance of Mr. Power implied that Motorola did not abandon investing in Chongqing. My ethics of professionalism impelled me to interview him and to reveal the reasons of Motorola’s decision, in hopes of exposing how the investment environment in Chongqing and determine if it had changed. After the interview was published, many readers called the newsroom to comment on the issue. Many other occasions also witnessed my endeavor to be an achieving journalist, such as the review of the development in Chongqing, the Fiftieth anniversary of China. My effort won me a ?9 Chongqing Good News Award. Questions puzzling me Many questions came to my mind as to, besides news reporting, how can the media function to benefit the society and the public. The question reminded me of President Jiang zemin’s appeal: politicians run the newspaper. Yet how to balance the demands of the government and that of the public will definitely influence the development of the media. Furthermore, how do the media inform their readers and audience objectively when the government still controls the media substantially?
