...ty to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Although I currently perform well in these areas, it is one of my goals to improve the quality and effectiveness of my communications. In my career, many of the supervisors I have encountered are poor communicators. It requires careful wording and tact to handle many situations in the work place. For example, critiquing a subordinates performance must be handled very delicately. Even constructive criticism can be taken very badly by someone who feels they are performing at their best. I feel that the communications from a leader to their subordinates sets the tone of morale, motivation, and performance for the entire work area. If the staff perceives communication from the leader as being negative, that areas performance will decrease. Through my classes I hope to learn not only how to effectively communicate, however, to excell in all my communications. In healthcare it is essential that a leader or supervisor excell in many functions. They must be able to effectively plan both stragetically, and financially. Preparing process improvement plans, missions, budgets, goals, and values - to name a few - require vast knowledge of what works. A groups plans set the path they will follow, whether towards success or failure. Compliance regulations and issues are an every day factor in healthcare. With many regulatory and compliance groups continually inspecting healthcare facilities, and forming new standards; the healthcare leader must have indepth knowledge in these areas. They must insure that their areas meet or exceed these requirements continually, and that employees operate within set paramaters. Obtaining the skills necessary for success and advancement in my career will enable me to improve my financial situation. Since learning of my work towards a bachelor’s degree, my employeer has begun discussing my careeer path within the facility. I am soon to be promoted to Lead Technologist, which will increase my salary. My supervisor has also recommended me for the core management program, and has stated that I could be promoted to a supervisory level within the next one to two years. Increasing my income will afford me the ability to help my children attend college....
