Personal Goals
...lieve goals should be SMART (Simple, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time sensitive). My goal to graduate from the University of Phoenix fits this test. As I began my quest to receive my college degree, I had to put into writing exactly what I wanted to achieve and by what date I expected to get there. It was not enough to just say to myself, I want to graduate from college; I had to set limits and time lines so that I had a clear direction of where I wanted to be and when. As I wrote down my personal goals check list, I realized that there were other things I wanted to achieve during my time in college. Putting personal goals in writing help uncover other wants and needs. Personal Goals 3 As I stated earlier, graduating from the University of Phoenix was my initial goal. As I began to put my goal in writing, I suddenly realized that there was additional planning that needed to be included. This is where my main goal suddenly had many subsets. They included a time line for myself, when will I graduate? The next goal I had to flush out was where will I graduate? Another goal was, I want to graduate with a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average. All of these goals came to me as I set my very simple, basic goal of just wanting to graduate. I believe that people don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan. Goals are a very important part of our lives. I have additional goals in my life that pertain to my personal goal to successfully graduate from the University of Phoenix. Once this goal is accomplished, I have set new career goals for myself. I guess this could also be considered an additional subset to my original goals and subsets. Once I have achieved my goals to graduate from the University of Phoenix, earn a 3.0 or better grade point average, walk across the stage in Phoenix, Arizona, and accomplish all of this by June, 30, 2005, I also want to pursue additional job opportunities with in my current organization.
