... out to be an experience for me. The first thing that we talked about was how we are treated as minorities and what the majority expects of us. Mrs. O’Brien explained to us that we know more about the majority than they know about us. Therefore it shouldn’t be our job but it is our job to make them understand why we do what we do and try to prove to them that we can overcome adversity. This discussion quickly turned into us talking about racism and how it came about. I did not agree with her on this topic however. She explained her reasoning for believing that minorities cannot be racist. I believe that anyone can be racist. She said that in order to be racist you have to have money power and be of the majority. She explained that when blacks have money and maybe a high ranked job that is borrowed power and they still cannot be racist. This part of the discussion had many of us young ladies confused.
