Ay, marry, was’t, and he put it by thrice, every time gentler than other; and at every putting-by, mine honest neighbors shouted.” This quote proves that Caesar had the support of the people because every time he refused the crown the people cheered in his favor. This quote insures that Caesar had power because he had support from the people. Caesar is an example that, in order to have power one must obtain the support of the people. The second character that has power is Brutus. After Brutus and the other conspirators killed Caesar, Brutus gains power by winning the support of the people in a speech he made. His speech shown on page 117 of Julius Caesar, Brutus says, “..., this is my answer: not that I loved Caesar less, but I loved Rome more. Had you rather Caesar here living, and die all slaves, than that Caesar were dead, to live all freeman?” This quote shows that Brutus is saying that Caesar was a tyrant and that he killed Caesar for the love of Rome. This also shows Brutus’s attempt to gain the support of the people. Another quote on page 119 is, “Bring him with triumph home unto his house. Caesar’s better parts shall be crowned in Brutus. We’ll bring him to his house with shouts and clamors.” This quote shows that Brutus’s earlier speech has gained the support of the people. The people even say they want Brutus as king. Now Brutus has the support of the people. So he is now in power. Brutus is another example that, one needs the support of the people to be powerful.
