Much like the United States two Major parties have the majority of the control, Democratic Revolutionary Party and Nationalist Republican Liberal Movement. Suffrage 18 years of age; universal and compulsory Economy- Panama’s primary economic activity is in the service sector that contributes for three fourths of GDP. Service sector activities include the Panama Canal, banking, Colon Free zone, insurance, container ports, flagship registry, and tourism. GDP- real growth rate 1.4% Population below poverty line 37% Household income Lowest 10% = 1% Highest 10% = 36% Labor Force 1.1 million note- shortage of skilled labor, oversupply of unskilled labor Unemployment rate 13% Exports $5.9 billion Imports $6.7 billion Economic aid recipient $197.1 million Exchange rate Balboas per US Dollar 1(fixed rate) Part II In order to gain control of the government in Panama I would simply use their current election system, which seems to be democratic and stable. Panama is a transitional country much closer to a developed country versus the underdeveloped country end of the spectrum. Low death rate and low infant mortality rate point to a developed country type standards.
