Overall Music Reflection

...of children’s books which allowed for a variety in the groups performances. I am planning to be a first grade teacher and I found that one of the group’s presentations will be very useful one day. I was sure to make a note of the book Shake My Silly’s Out because I feel that it will be a very enjoyable story to read to my students in the future. The group members sang the words to the story as well as adding musical sounds to repetitive words. When the story read “I will jump jump jump my silly’s out,” the group members jumped to illustrate the words. I think that first grade students will find the story much more interesting if they are able to perform the acts with me as I am reading the book. I am sure I will buy this book for my classroom and read it to my students because I think it would be a lot of fun. Not only would the students be able to engage in activity which is one thing they love to do, but I will also be integrating music into the class. The soundscape project was a successful way of teaching me an activity to incorporate into my lesson plan. Before I attended this music course, I had very few, if any, ideas on how to integrate music into my classroom. Truthfully, I had never even thought about adding music to my lesson plans. I had always assumed that music was only integrated into the specific music class in the school program. I have now realized that there are many ways to use music in the class and these activities can be both enjoyable for the students and myself as the teacher.
