Othello vs Jake

... high points in life, Jake becomes more ‘family-like’. He’s friendlier to his kids and he makes them happy. Also, Jake becomes more passionate and loving to his wife. Like Othello, he too becomes passionate and loving to his wife. But for Othello, the high point of his life was the fact that he is married to Desdemona and the love they have, brings them closer together yet draws them further away. Othello deals with the joys of his life gracefully yet powerfully. Othello feels obliged for being the husband of Desdemona. He has loved her throughout their entire life. From the point of their marriage, “It is most true: true I have married her” [Act 1 Scene 3 - Othello] right up to the night of their death, “I kissed thee here I killed thee: no way but this, killing myself, to die upon a kiss” [Act 5 Scene 2 - Othello]. Through this, he began molesting the tree where Grace was hanged. The only way Jake dealt his adversity in life was through beer, “People show their true feelings when they’re drunk” [Grace]. Just like Othello, Jake could not deal the adversity in his life. Like the time when Jake proclaimed that he could not take this anymore, “I’ve had it up to here with this woman” [Jake]. Once again, beer was the answer to everything. But because of beer, being drunk results in violence and anger. Even being insulted results in violence and anger and not only that, money results in violence and anger. Jake simply could not see the consequences of his brutality. Jake and Beth always fight regarding insult and money, “Your still a slave to your past, your drink, and yourself…Our people once were warriors. But unlike you, Jake, they were people with manner, pride; people with spirit. If my spirit can sur...
