He also says that in San Antonio that is compounded with the city’s increasing population of Hispanics, who tend to be more prone to weight problems for cultural and possibly genetic reasons. Also the city with the lowest obesity rate is Denver. As for the Washington Metropolitan area the obesity rate is 18.1 and 54.4 percent are overweight. In another article from March 11, 2003 Obesity can be linked to the high fructose(sugar) content of different food items. This article claims that some energy bars and drinks have too much sugar. According to the most recent figures from consuming 113 pounds of high sugar products in 1966 has now risen to 147 pounds per person per year. This can be directly linked to the recent rise of obesity in America. Along with the amount of sugars consumed there are also new types of sweeteners that play a big role. For example in 1966 refined sugar also known as sucrose accounted for 86 percent of sweeteners used in products. Now sweeteners made out of corn make up 55 percent of the sweetener market.
