Oscilloscope (physics)
...his lab was to familiarize ourselves with how to use the oscilloscope. The sweep knob was for time/divisions. When the setting was on low, the electron beam was in fast broken lines across the screen. The lowest setting, .2, was a dot and went across the screen really slow. Across the screen are 10 divisions, so 1 div = 1/10 screen. The sweep variation knob controlled fine tuning. The position knob placed the line in according to where you want it on the screen. Part 1 Sweep Control: In this step we experimented with the sweep control knob. On the slowest setting, it takes 1 second to move across the screen. It agrees with the setting b/c the setting is .1 sec per division, and there are 10 divisions, therefore that is correct. The beam becomes a continuous line at the setting of 2. On the maximum setting, the line gets lighter b/c it is going so fast. The trace is hard to determine b/c of the speed. Part 2 Gain Control: In this step we connect the coaxial cable to a 9V battery. We set the sweeper on 2V/div. The purpose was to get the line on the screen to correspond with 9. Ours was at 8.75, and that is close enough. When switched to the ground position, the line is zeroed. The trace momemtatirly disappears when switched....
