When you walk outside at night there is only the darkness of the night and the dim light from the stars and moon, but if the universe was extremely old compared to accepted predictions, life would be much different. If the universe were extremely old, when you looked outside at night, in every direction you looked upward, you would see the surface of a distant star. If that was all you saw, the entire sky would be as bright as the sun and there would be no night. The reason for the dark night sky is that we can only see as many stars that have been made since the beginning of the universe (Sweitzer 37). This information helped provide evidence for the big bang theory. Outside a pole is planted in the ground. One million billion 2mm wavelength photons are hitting it per second, which are only detected by highly sensitive radio telescopes (37-38). This radiation is constant no matter which direction or portion of the sky you look. In the early years of the universe the temperature was very high and photons were always running into particles, thus keeping an equal energy level and temperature. When the light reached our telescopes it had cooled because of the expanding universe and the radiation being stretched and cooled. It was only 3 degrees above zero degrees Celsius. This is called cosmic microwave background (CMB), and has convinced many astrophysicists that the big bang happened. Another fact of evidence for the big bang is the expanding universe. Great astronomist Edwin Hubble took galaxy M31 and observed it with his telescope. In 1920 he proved that this galaxy was a cluster of starts in out own galaxy. He concluded by observation that more distant the galaxy the faster iot was moving away from us. This shows that the universe is expanding, which supports the big bang theory.
