One Love
...eart and left it on the stair the night before. The next type of love that King talked about was philia. This is “intimate affection between personal friends. Philia denotes sort of a reciprocal love; the person loves because he is loved” (104). So this is the love that a person can possess for friends and family. In the story of Cinderella there are several examples of this type of love. This can be found in story as the love that Cinderella still had for her deceased mother. She would go to her grave every day and weep. This is the love that Cinderella’s father had toward she and her step sisters. This is also that love that Cinderella held for her father, and a tiny bit for her step mother and step sisters. Her step mother and step sister felt quite the contrary towards her. In fact in the story they took away her clothes and gave her a nasty looking smock with dirty, wooden shoes. It even said that “they ridiculed her and threw peas and lentils into the ashes so that she would have to sit down in the ashes and pick them out” (117). This love is in action, and one has to have a want to sacrifice anything for the good of the community. This type of love is apparent in Cinderella as well. Cinderella’s love for her community and home can be seen when she submits to all of her step mother and sister’s wants and needs just to keep them happy. Cinderella practically lost everything she had, including her dignity, for her step mother and step sisters good. The negative feelings this brought about for Cinderella led her to start praying to God. Before here biological mother died she told her, “Dear child, if you are good and say your prayers, our dear lord will always be with you, and I shall look down on you form heaven and always be with you” (117). So she visited her grave everyday and prayed. One time she even planted a hazel sprig on her mother’s grave and watered it with her own tear drops and it began to grow. The story also says that...
