To illustrate, “he took one look at the great fish as he watch the shark close in” (Hemingway 103) As a result, “ He hit it with his blood mushed hand driving a good Rosal 2 harpoon with all his strength and hit it without hope but with resolution and complete malignancy” (Hemingway 102). Santiago feels that “man is not made for defeat, a man can be destroyed but not defeated” (hemingway 92). The man recognized, that “he took my harpoon too and all the rope” (Hemingway 103). Santiago knows “my fish bleeds again and there will be others” (Hemingway 105), therefore he is determined to be more alert. The old man is determined to oercome his pain by enduring “all of his pain and what was left of his strength and his long gone pride and putting against the fishes agony” (Hemingway 93). Furthermore while talking to himself he says “felt faint and sick and could not see well” (Hemingway 94), he continues to reinforce his determination by telling himself “keep my head clear, I’m tired old man but I have killed this fish which is my brother and I will do the slave work” (Hemingway 95). To add to at that very time he continues to endure himself “ his left hand became as tight as the gripped claws of an eagle” (Hemingway 63).
