And in the process of trying to restrain her, he broke her neck and killed her. George had the duty of shooting Lennie before Curley got there. Lennie broke the law because of his disability and it was better that George shot him before Curley got the chance to. Lennie was also a danger to everyone around him. Lennie’s tremendous strength combined with his child-like brain provided a huge danger for everyone around him. Every single mouse or puppy he’s come into contact with has died. He doesn’t mean to kill the mice, but he is so big he accidentally crushes them while he is petting them. Even a puppy was crushed when he tried to discipline it when he thought it was going to bite him. Lennie crushed Curley’s hand just by holding it and he snapped Curley’s wife’s neck when he tried to restrain her.
