Of Mice and Men

...t to the rabbits to feed them. That would be his job, to tend the rabbits. This is a very simple dream, but Lennie really wants it to come true. “An rabbit’s,” Lennie said eagerly. “And I’d take care of em. Tell how I’d do that, George”-page 63. That quote proves that Lennie really wants his dream to come true. It is unfortunate for Lennie that he is so big. He makes a big mistake that gets him killed. When he is in the barn with Curley’s wife they are talking about how he likes to pet soft things. She says I like to pet my hair because it is really soft right after I brush it. Then she tells Lennie that he can touch it and, you know Lennie, he pets it to hard and started to hurt her. She screamed stop so he covered her mouth and picked her up. He jerked her the wrong way and broke her neck. Lennie knew he did something wrong. So her ran to the river, right where George told him to go if something happens. Then that is when George goes to the river and kills Lennie before the others can get to him. George also has a dream similar to Lennies. He wants Lennie to be happy and safe. “No sir we’d have out own place where we belonged and not sleep in no bunk house.”-Page 63. That quote tells me that George wanted this place more than anything did, because he has been travelling around for so long that he just wants to settle down. George has done a lot of things to make his dream come true. He has gotten Lennie and him several jobs. He has also worked very hard to support both of them. George tells Lennie that he could live by himself and just sit in bars and cathouses and have all the fun he wants to but he doesn’t. This is because he cares about Lennie. He kills Lennie in the end, because he cares about him. The guys that were after him would not have had any mercy on him they would have made him suffer. George didn’t want Lennie to suffer so he just killed him by himself so that he would feel no pain. As a result of this I don’t know if George’s dream came true, because Stienbeck never explains what happens to George after he kills Lennie. My guess would be; George had trouble after he killed him and he regretted it. Tied in with these two dreams, is a dream of a crippled ol...
