When Iokaste kills herself over finding out her husband was truly her son, and Oedipus is feeling pain and sorrow, it seems as if the city is doomed. Yet Sophocles leaves the ending in hope for the best in Oedipus. One might say that Oedipus took it to far. Would not drop which caused his downfall in the end.
