... “No taxation without representation.” The colonist argued that without proper representation, directly from the colonies, Parliament did not have the right to tax the colonies. “No taxation without representation” became very popular in rallies and protests because the colonist felt that this slogan represented America as the innocent victim that was being forced to follow strict laws on taxes that they didn’t get to discuss or representatives that shared their view on the taxes. However, the colonists knew that if they were represented in parliament then their voice would have been out voted because the taxes were, in fact, to help the colonist. Britain replied to the colonist cry of “No taxation without representation” by explaining to them they were represented. Parliament believed in a representation of all the countries under the crown. This representation is called virtual representation, and it means that parliament looks out for everyone and represents every member, including the colonies....
