A person could also become homeless because of money management problems. If a person does not manage his or her money correctly, he or she may end up homeless and on the streets. An example of money management problems is when a person does not pay the rent because he or she would rather use the money for something else, such as drugs or alcohol. Then, a person would get evicted from his or her property as a result of this reckless behavior. Thus, effectively leaving the person homeless if there was nowhere else for him or her to turn. A person that would rather spend money on gambling instead of paying bills is another example of money management problems. Gambling can take the form of lottery playing or casino gaming. Gambling is becoming a widespread problem particularly in the United States. The illusion of winning millions of dollars with a small amount of money invested lures many poverty-level people to spend more than they can afford. There are many different ways people can become homeless because of poor money management decisions. Homelessness can occur from many things other than drug and alcohol abuse or money management problems. In some cases, depression may be the reason that causes a person to become homeless. A person who is depressed and will no longer be interested in seeking help or trying to remedy the situation may eventually become homeless. Depression is a condition that could also lengthen the amount of time that a person is homeless. There are many different ways for a person to become depressed. “Hard times” is another reason that a person may become homeless. “Hard times” is usually defined as a stressful financial period of time in a person’s life. For example, a person may prioritize his or her money to pay all of the bills, but he or she may not have enough money to do so.
