Night of the Living Dead
...he white population of the film to be stubborn immature, passive fatally sentimental, and murderously. But one man is different and he takes charge. Ben is the victim and the savior in the film. He is well dressed in overwhelmingly light clothes and he immediately takes charge of the house; his successes include gathering food, finding the nails and wood to board up the windows and doors, switching on the radio and finding the television, lighting fires to scare the zombies, finding a rifle and bullets and providing replacement shoes for those that Barbara lost in the graveyard. This shows how great man he is despite that he is black. The director made this character to show how black man can be the good guy but can’t fully accomplish what he deserves. Despite Ben being brave and intelligent, he is ultimately subdued and killed by the living white that we see represents death and against whom Ben stands no chance of survival. Ben dies in the hand of a white man. The director chose to end the film this way because it shows that black man can’t ever win. Just like Martin Luther King, he was hero and everybody looked up to him but in the end he still died. It’s a comparison between the two, it shows that one can have impact to people and yet can’t do it again and again. No matter how hard they try, it’s not going to last.
