...al the frost still had the landscape in its grip, so some of the twigs on the bushes and trees looked like a dead mans hand, whilst where the sun had spread its gentle warmth the green shone through making a green and white breath taking in its contrast. The canal water was frozen and was strong enough to take a carthorse that was pulling a sledge with laughing adults and children on it. All this time the winter sun was gleaming off the ice and in some places icicles hung like Christmas decorations. Slowly but surely the sun burned its way through the clouds, Ben loved the sun when he and Carl went on holiday Carl went out clubbing and drinking during the day whilst Ben caught the rays on the beach. The surface of the ice melted along with the slush from the sledges and the carthorse were little puddles of defrosted ice, lying on top. Fang was thoroughly enjoying himself barking at the kids and the horse who kicked out in obvious disgust at the creature that was tormenting him, somehow fang had an uncanny knowledge of when the horse was going to kick out and came in from the opposite side, little did the horse know that it would have been no more than a babies kiss, from fangs toothless jaws. Suddenly he stopped barking and Ben looked up realising that fang had recognised his friend Carl someway in the distance. Calling fang to heel they carried on down the towpath towards where Carl was obviously working on a boat. Their friendship had been started when they were at school, Ben was being bullied and Carl came in all guns blazing and sorted out the bully. The bully glowered vengefully at Ben but never dare touch him and from then on they had remained firm friends each having a special regard for both their strengths and weaknesses. You could tell that fang was an elderly dog he could do nothing more that water natures gardens, marking his territory daring any dog to walk on it, even though he couldn’t do a thing, he tried! The closer we got to the boat the more excited fang got, it looked as though Carl was working on the boats steering wheel, Carl was known all round Yorkshire and Derbyshire for his excellent skills at boat mechanics. Carl was very agile when it came boats as he could swing from one side to the other by using the many ropes and obstacles around the boat. As Ben drew closer to the boat he shouted to Carl, then made his way onto the boat to greet his old friend, after a while they got talking about the night before activity’s, this was because when either Ben or Carl went round the local pubs and night-clubs they went together, however last night it was different because Carl had gone to meet a girl ...
