Nationalism and World Power

...ed, they blamed the assassination on one country, and slowly each country declared war on all their foes. The balance of power was uneven; each country wanted the best for themselves, which made the balance uneven. The balance of power is very important to having a secure world. The nationalistic feelings that were flowing through each country made them want to better themselves, making two opposing powers. Having two opposing powers not only can, but will result in trouble. World War II was the deadliest of the three, caused by advances in technology. Due to WWI Germany had many reparations to pay and to obey, one of them being a limited military. Hitler, a new Dictator of Germany, wanted the best for Germany, and he thought that Germany should be a world power again. Hitler violated the Treaty of Versailles by greatening the size of Germany’s armies. The rest of Europe ignored Germany, their appeasement would result in a second world war. Germany wasn’t satisfied with just a larger army, but wanted more land for Germany, and again Europe ignored Germany. This eventually resulted in Germany being the strongest nation in the world. Germany slaughtered millions of innocent people in the Holocaust, for just not being German. The Germans nationalism was too strong, they thought all Germans were better than all other people. The rest of Europe willingly, yet unknowingly, sacrificed their power, upsetting the balance of powers, this cost the world millions upon millions of lives. The Cold War, being the most recent, luckily wasn’t a war fought. With all the technology currently obtained it could have been enough to destroy the world several times over. Germany was split and then dispersed between the U.S.A, France, Britain and the Soviet Union. U.S.A, France and Britain all made their parts of Germany democratic and friendly to each other; the Soviet Union on the other hand wanted their own government and rules. The difference on how Germany were to be run separated Germany into East and West Germany. West being the U.S.A, France and Britain and East being the Soviet Union. When Germany was separated Berlin, the capital, was also split into four parts. East Germany was placed around Berlin, making West Germany’s half a very unstable; the tension even got to the point which East Berlin built a wall keeping its own civilians out of West Berlin.
