...te surprised with the information I found on this site. NOW has definitely opened my eyes to some important issues that can affect my family and me. I played sports in high school and was shocked to see the issues concerning Title IX, which in simple terms would make it possible to eliminate equal funding to women in sports. Having a little girl, who I hope will play sports in the future, this raises some concerns. I also got the feeling that President Bush is against abortion and family planning. Actually, that he was against women’s rights in general. He and his committee have eliminated Medicaid funding making it no longer available for women to receive the RU-486 (the abortion pill) even in extreme cases of rape, incest, or life or death situations where the woman may not live through child delivery. Also, he tried to eliminate funding for contraceptives in the Federal Employee Health Benefits Plan (FEHBP), but it was reinstated. I was glad to hear that contraceptives were reinstated, especially because Viagra was covered under this same plan. He has also ordered that women serving in the military (abroad) are not allowed to receive medical attention in cases of abortions. They would have to go to a local hospital to receive attention. This could be very dangerous in countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Afghanistan where we are having military concerns, and not to say far less technologically and medically advanced.
