...hough Napoleon may be considered by some as one of the greatest generals in history, he was also a dictator. Dictatorship was not something that was favoured by the French people. In 1801, when he made peace with one of the Revolution’s greatest enemies, the Roman Catholic Church, he was seen as the supreme dictator of France. Napoleon felt that it was necessary to take dominance over the entire European continent in order for France to have any sort of security. He did not make decisions based on any kind of ordinary moral laws, he simply used his proper intuition. He was a extremely egocentric man and did not see fit to make his people a priority. He was well aware that his people, the French, had aspirations of a free and constitutional government, yet he did not hesitate to re-institute a monarchy. His egotistical attitude is clearly shown when, in 1804, he decided to crown himself the Emperor of France and to codify the law . As he became more and more successful by gaining victory in several battles, he took precedence in his self-glorification. Napoleon took an extreme amount of pride in his military.
