...self verses sociological perspectives. Religion is so important to the makeup of a person. Religion sets norms, values, sanctions, and beliefs. Religion creates great benefits for people. Religion creates as feeling of belonging because religion puts one in a position with many people of the same belief. Religion creates meaning; it gives people a new meaning to their life. Religion creates a sense of comfort. These comforts are created by the beliefs and values of the religion. Religion has a way of profoundly shaping a person according to the group. Religion will continue forever because there will always be a group of people thinking similarly. Deviance creates a balance. What people consider deviance varies because of different norms, values, and overall culture. What could be deviant to one group could be considered normal to another. Even deviance has functions. Without deviance there would be no moral bounders and no affirmed norms. By punishing deviants we also feel closer together, social unity. If so many people are deviant in a certain way , then that deviance will no longer be a deviance but a norm, creating social change. The impact of culture on a person is amazing. Cultures create norms, values, sanctions, beliefs, and very, very strong expectations. Culture is the language, beliefs, values, norms, behaviors, and material objects that are passed from one generation to another. (book def.) You are born into your culture and everyone around you speaks, thinks, believes, and acts similarly because they were born into the culture as well. Culture is a major part of growth. To me, family is the most important factor of shaping a young person. Our family projects everything about our culture and religion. That is where we see it first. Family gives us a sense of identity and a feeling of who we are. Without my parents or my sibling I would not be the person that I am today. Family, as well as friends and other primary groups, satisfy our need for face to face interaction. Family offers us a sense of belonging and love. We live off of their views on life. With...
