My neighborhood
... other words my father could afford to pay them. Around my neighbourhood there was a primary school, where children between the ages of five and twelve attended. we learned the English language, Science, geography and maths subjects. we spent seven hours, five days a week in school. After school we would play games, like soccer, netball and atheletics. Before diner time, every child in my neighborhood was expected to do some household chores. Girls would sweep and cleaning certain rooms, wash dishes, collect firewood and corn from the fields. Boys would plough in the fields, graze cattle and goats and cut down fire wood. During diner, children would not sit at the same table with the elders. For some reason, families were large. Families consisted of 5 to 15 children. so children would sit on thier table, in some houses there would sit on the floor. The kind of food served as almost the same everyday, but nobody complained because it was delicious everyday. We mainly eat cornmeal, served with greens and meat. Sweet potatoes were usually served as dessert. Before we ate we would say the grace, and we finished we would thank our mothers for cooking. After diner there were always games to play and stories to be told. We would gather around our granmothers or fathers to listen. There were such great story tellers indeed.
