...d from 70 words per minute to closer to 50. Since completing the class I have quit using my pinkies in order to type faster. The class did not improve my speed nor my technique. Similar events happened to others in the class as well. Though a few in the course did improve, most students that entered with little or no computer experience to begin with left with a C or a D grade. It seemed success in the class depended on prior computer experience. This problem may be the result of out of date programs, a faulty curriculum, and trying to fit too much into the 4 months the class is taken. The greatest evidence there is too much for each student to do in the amount of time given is attendance in the after school labs. Most students were forced to stay after school in order to complete a lesson they didn’t have enough time from the teacher to complete. This can create problems with students that then must rely on a ride from a parent. A friend of mine has told me that she agreed not enough time was given for the lessons and that many students found ways to cheat in order to keep their grade point average up and prevent having to stay after school. Is it so unbelievable no one enjoyed the class? No one enjoys being over-loaded with work, and receiving a bad grade in a course they were forced to take.
