This event in Yoko’s life was inspiring to me because it showed me that even in the worse of times, there is always a glimpse of hope. In “Watch Missing,” a bully at school named Kyoto purposely accused Yoko of stealing her “missing” watch. In truth she had hidden it in the school shed in an attempt to frame Yoko, but luckily failed to do so, thanks to a piece of hair ribbon she left in the shed. As I had a similar experience, I understand what Yoko felt. When I was I elementary school, a friend had bought three of my friends and I bracelets. When one of them went missing, the blame was put on me and I felt betrayed. My own friends had blamed me of a crime they knew I would never do, like how Yoko had been blamed for staling Kyoto’s watch. In the end, the missing bracelet was found behind a cubby, but Yoko was not as fortunate. She was given a warning from the principle and everyone kept his or her belongings away from her. I remember the relief I felt when the bracelet was found and I feel terrible that Yoko was unable to feel the same. In the next section, “Solved,” there is a very serene atmosphere. The two murders were uncovered—two fired workers of the Masuda’s clog factory were hired by the Masudas’ niece to kill them when she discovered that she was not the next of kin. In the end, Junko was brought to justice and I am relieved that this mystery in Yoko’s life is finally closed.
