We live in a world in which people are constantly confronted with violent acts, such as the rape and murder of little children, school shootings, and serial snipers. The society is eager and anxious to find and remove all causes of these cultural ills. Some of these violence acts are expressed through music. In some people’s perspectives this may be the cause of the hate, others may think that it’s a way to display your feelings with out committing acts of violence. Lyrics range from singing about having a crush on a guy, to hitting your mom over and over again with a car. Yet it’s how the people take in the music, which shapes our society. Artists like Eminem and Marilyn Manson have been portrayed as threatening, provocative men. Eminem, who in some cases raps about dragging someone from their car, or beating his wife, explains in a few of his songs that people should not take his music literally.
