When Norma Jean enrolled in community college classes and began experimenting with new recipes and lifting weights she became more independent of herself. As Norma Jean’s transition into becoming an independent woman continued Leroy starts to feel ‘useless’ intellectually and physically. Leroy knowing that his wife Norma Jean is becoming more distanced from him tries to appease Norma with the promise he made her when they wed of building her a new home.
