...usins to a killer, known to many, as cancer. “It is the second leading cause of death in the United States.” (American Cancer Society, p.4). What if there was a way to find a cure for this disease? By experimenting with human genetics scientists may stumble upon a scientific discovery on how to alter the diseased cells. C. Davis Allis a researcher at the University of Virginia explains this further, “For example, we could turn off genes that promote tumor growth to help prevent cancer development, turn on other genes that suppress tumors." (CNN). Without this type of genetic exploration the world may never discover a cure for this ailment and will suffer the loss of their loved ones. Those who suffer from cancer are not the only ones who can benefit from the cloning science. Many scientists have dabbled in the idea and experimentation of stem-cell research to cure terminal illnesses. An article found in Time magazine stated, “Embryonic stem cells eventually turn into every kind of tissue, including brain, muscle, nerve, and blood. If scientists could harness their powers, these cells could serve as the body’s self-repair kit, providing cures for Parkinson’s, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and paralysis.” (Gibbs, p.9). Such discoveries are phenomenal and in the future can prove to be monumental to national healthcare as well as the human popula...
