The evidence shows that Tom is innocent, but he is still convicted of rape. The jury doesn’t even care about what Tom has to say or his point of view because of the simple fact that he is black. It is puzzling that Atticus is the only adult in town that is not racist. As a result he faces situations where is his life is in danger. One obstacle he overcomes is defending Tom the night the group of towns people are going to kill him. No matter what he didn’t let them get close to Tom’s cell.
