A young girl who had trouble telling her parents that she is pregnant is natural. But can you imagine a thirteen year old with a baby, a child raising a child. Some opinions state that a thirteen year old may not have all the knowledge to know if abortion is right or wrong and imagine the fear and confusion that same 13 year old must feel knowing she has to reveal the horrifying news to her parents, maybe that is why so many young girls are trying to take care of their unwanted pregnancies on their own, despite the jeopardy they may have to endure. “Mandatory parental involvement is going to increase their pain, for teenage girls are 24 times as likely to die of childbirth as of the first trimester abortion, and ...parental involvement laws will make more teenage women give birth”. Parental consent will lead to increased anguish, grief and possible fatalities of teenage girls. Many people might argue, that minors must have parental consent. To see a rated “R” movie and to even get their ears pierced, therefore they should have to have parental consent and notification of the abortion before it is performed. Some may think, that this is a good argument but the statistics show otherwise. Teenage mothers (usually those who couldn’t or wouldn’t give parental consent for an abortion) are frightening. “Eight in ten women who become mothers at 17 or younger drop out of high school and only one in fifty finish college”. Although the law states that anyone under the age of eighteen must either have parental notification and/or consent, this in most cases, is not true. I have spoken to several people about abortions being done on 15 and 16 year olds without their parents ever finding out. The clinic where the abortions were done, was the same for all of these people, Planned Parenthood in Riverside. From these people I also found out that the number one reason that the pregnant teens did not want to inform their parents was out of fear. They were afraid of rejection and disappointment.
