But most of all, I think the time placing is to be set aside as the most changed aspect of the movie versus the play. Another thing that slightly annoyed me was that the characters skipped lines as they performed for the camera and their audience. It made it so much harder to follow along the lines as they went, making me flip madly through the book. But I understood the fact that the movie was time consuming and the director and producer would not have liked to have its audience bored, misled, or confused. Shakespeare’s Original Play versus The Movie In the movie “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” first of all things, I noticed that the movie was set at the turn of the century in about 1900 in Monte Athens thanks to the beginning sort of paragraph that was projected and gave the audience a mental outline of the setting before the play began. Shakespeare’s play is set more or less in perhaps medieval times judging by the names of Theseus, Hippolyta, and the jobs of some of the actors for the play like being a tinker, a weaver, a bellows-mender and so forth.
