Mexican Revolution 1910-1940

...Mexicans were supporters of Madero, and took arms against the Diaz regime. Madero and Villa also took over Ciudad Juarez, which marked one of the first major victories. From this great victory came "the Treaty of Juarez". The treaty helped end the hostilities that took place in Mexico. Due Madero gaining power among the people, Diaz was forced into resigning from office. An election took place and Madero was declared president of Mexico. But soon after his election as president Madero was assassinated by General Victoriano Huetra in 1913. After the death of Madero, General Huerta took control of Mexico. Like Diaz, Huetra controlled Mexico through a dictatorship and became president in 1913. His rein as leader was lead by corruption and violence. A group of political leaders known as the Constitutionalists, fought against Huetra .The revolts of the constitutionalists caused for Huetra to resign as president in 1914. One of the leaders of this group was a man named Venustiano Carranza. Carranza became the president of Mexico in 1914. During this era Pancho Villa remained a militant force and built his forces in Mexico. Carranza and Villa became enemies .Villa received backing from fellow rebel leader Emiliano Zapata. This sparked a civil war in Mexico between Villa's forces and Carranza. In 1914 the Constitutionalist met with supporters of Villa and Zapata at the Convention of Aguascalientes .The outcome of the meeting is that either side are able to reach a decision on social issues. After the convention Villa and his armed forces attack Carranza at Mexico City. Villa took over Mexico City, and controlled it for a year with help from Zapata. The people then promote an ex-mine mine foreman named Eulalio Gutierrez was president, but Villa orders Gutierrez to be executed due to an act of conspiracy. During this time a military leader emerged for the Constitutionalists General Alvaro Obregon was the military leader and force who help defeat Villa. Villa and Zapata flee Mexico City due to the defeat .Obregon was a full supporter of the Constitution of 1917 and was angered at the fact that President Carranza was not enforcing it. Due to Carranza not enforcing the Constitution, General Obregon revolted against the government and overthrew President Carranza in 1920. Obregon was elected and became president and held his position in office from 1920-1924. After 1924 Plutarco Ellias Calles became the president of Mexico.
