Such scenes include when Leonard is getting a tattoo and Teddy barges in and tells him that he has to leave town. When asked why, Teddy makes up a story that is obviously not completely true and while telling it he never makes eye contact, instead nervously looks down and to his sides. On the other hand, at the end of the movie, when Teddy is telling Leonard the truth about what he is, he is clearly making eye contact the whole time, leading one to assume that he is undoubting telling the truth. Much of the movie can be deciphered this way; it follows true with all of the main characters. This aspect of the movie encourages us to believe in at least on purpose of story telling; there is often much more depth behind every scenario then one can immediately notice.
