Now, California’s Megan’s Law offers the public with certain information on the whereabouts of dangerous sex offenders so that members of our local communities may protect themselves and their children. The law also authorizes local law enforcement to notify the public about high risk and serious sex offenders who reside in, work, or frequently visit the community. Between community safety and offender’s rights, hands down community safety comes first. Offenders have committed their crimes with full knowledge that what they were doing was wrong and illegal. Many times when offenders commit one crime they might have the tendency to commit it again and repeat the offense. Innocent citizens, especially children, should not have to live without knowledge that potential danger is residing in their premises. By having full knowledge of where sex offenders are and what they look like helps innocent people make the decisions on how they will approach this situation, whether it means moving away or limiting public activities.
