This anti-witch event caused innocent people to die at the cry of others. In fear of being punished, they accused others of interacting with the devil. Fear, animosity, or even shock could have been the drive for the actions of the townspeople. But in the end over two dozen innocent victims were hanged, and hundreds were sent to jail. To a more recent topic, the McCarthy incident or also known as the “Red Scare.” In the 1950’s McCarthy seemed to appeal to sophisticated and wealthy people. He stated to the public that among the common people there were communists and people who believed in communist ways. This caused great concern to society. By McCarthy saying this it would strengthen his power as a United Sates Senator. In reality, there was no such proof of statements that some people or government workers were communists. If Senator McCarthy could rid the society of all communists and in people’s eyes he would be placed up on a pedastool . Just as Abigail in the “Crucible, they both fed on others worries.
