Mary married three men, two of them were killed because of her actions. Her first husband, who was said to be impotent, was Dauphin Francis. They married when Mary was 16, and she became queen of France. There marriage lasted less then two years when the Dauphin died. After going back to Scotland Mary met Lord Darnley, who might have been bisexual. Darnley became uncontrollably jealous, when Mary became good friends with Riccio, so he had Riccio murdered right in front of Mary, who was six months pregnant. Mary could not forgive Darnley for what he had done, so she and Bothwell planed his death which latter led to her downfall. With an explosion at the Kirk of fields Darnley was dead. Later Mary was wed to Bothwell, Which some say was a rapist. There marriage led to the alienation of some of Mary’s closest supporters. Elizabeth sees Mary as a great threat. Mary was the rightful heir to the English throne, but her cousin became queen instead. This made Elizabeth threatened by Mary, fearing that she will plot to get her rightful position as Queen of England back. England is Protestant just like Scotland is at the moment, but Mary is Catholic and Elizabeth fears that Scotland will follow her and become Catholic as well. Throughout Elizabeth’s life she has not helped her cousin out, but rather has tried to get in her way. Elizabeth first thinks about trying to get Mary to marry Leicester. If Elizabeth can get a loyal Englishman to become king of Scotland there will be a Protestant ruler over Scotland and it would be less likely that Mary’s religion will have any influence on the people.
