...is is a brief overview of The Thayer Co. and what services they provide. The Thayer Co. has many problems as like in any business whether successful or unsuccessful. First, one of the problems at The Thayer Co. they always seem to be shorthanded somewhere, whether is a worker here or a worker there. So what they are forced to do is take someone off another job to fill in for the absent employee. One process where this is a problem is the Gold Line. This is the line that makes the indoor menu systems. There's supposed to be a total of four people on the line, but usually there are only three people on the line. One person puts the body together; the other two people put the wiring in the body. The last part of the process has to find someone else from a different line, just to finish the process. So, its like a chain reaction, one person goes to help another process, then the process that they left gets behind and they have to find people to get that process caught up and so on. Another problem is the stacks of inventory that has accumulated through the years that isn't used anymore. They don't check their inventory sheets to see if a certain piece is still used or if it is obsolete. This mainly consists of the nuts and bolts used to make the menu-system. They come up with a better bolt, but they do not get rid of the old ones, so they are just sitting there. Every day that the bolt sits the firm is losing money for that inventory. These are just a few of the undesirable effects of the firm. There are many processes describing the flow of order in the firm, but these are the two that I believe are the most important. The first is the producing of the indoor menu systems. These menu systems come in a variety of sizes: 9x27, 18x18, 18x27, 36x27, and 36x36. The process starts with the parts runners gathering the entire inventory together ad setting them at the first table of the assembly line. Then the first person at the assembly line constructs the back of the menu system. While this is going on the second person on the assembly line assembles the innards of the menu systems. This would include all the wiring and labeling. Then it moves to the third person where it is screwed down and tested to see if the bulbs work. While all of these steps are going on people are making transparencies for the menu system and the strip department is making the strips of the food items and price. Then when all of this is done, it is inspected for the last time and packaged up to get ready for shipping. The next business process is customer service receiving an order for a product. Then the order is given to the Warehouse Supervisor, where he/she will make the inventory list for the product. Then while the product is being made, customer service calls the customer to tell him/her how their product is doing. Then the order is ship and is received by the customer. To measure an individual's personal efficiency all you have to do is look at the assembly line to see if everyone is keeping up or if there is someone that is going slower than they should be. The Thayer Co. describes the efficiency for a function by having a certain amount of time it should take to do a...
