Her father Sylvio Ciccone raised her family of 7 other silblings with a strong Catholoc background as well as a discipline work ethic. Coping with a great responsibility at home, Madonna took on a motherly role to her beothers and sisters wihich in turn gave her a strong determination to succedd not only as a performer but to be a loving mother as well. Madonna began with aspirations of becoming a ballerina. She moved from Michigan to New York in 1977 and began studying a acclaimed choreographer Alvin Ailey. After performing in numerous shows including the Patrick Hernandez Revue, The Breakfast Club, and Emmy, she was signed to Sire in 1982 as a solo performer. Madonna’s first self-titled album came out immediately after in 1983 and since then she has had 9 number one singles, 36 tops fives, and 8 number one albums. Her run of sixteen consecutives top fives in the American charts broke the record held previously by the Beatles. She has sold over 85 million albums world wide, more than any other female artist in history.
