She unawaringly prostituted herself to Rodolphe for money and constantly looked for the pity in life that would make her feel more influential and exquisitive with her daily routine. Emma is a ‘giving’ individual that exploited the feelings of Rodolphe and Leon in order to avoid the depressed and simple life style that she was unwillingly growing accustomed to. The selfish nature of an individual to disregard the emotions of those who care for you should not be honored. When Emma was capable of utilizing Charles both financially and expressively she blatantly showed her personal shallowness. The selfish acts that a person may sink to will tell us everything about them. When Emma was in dire need of change she turned on her husband, the man that supported her thoroughly and had a never-ending love and attachment to this lavish character. She searched and pried in the lives of others to try to capture a portion of the happiness that they may be experiencing from living life. She used these men to try and improve her tarnished existence disrespecting the worries and feelings that these men may attach to her. Flaubert wrote Madame Bovary with total revulsion towards the central character. He made no obvious attempt to illicit feelings towards this unsympathetic individual and from the title of the work an educated reader can conclude his mentality towards her.
