Macbeth: Film Review
...hat was built during King Macbeth’s time was a key part in the setting of the movie because it brought an element of history and truth to a Hollywood set. The lighting, or lack their of, set a perfect mood to set the darkness of the castle. The rich, dark colours of the costumes gave the movie a tone of evil and darkness. The sounds of the time like the animals, the horses, the wind, and stormy weather brought another element of realism into the movie. Secondly the actors were well suited for each of their parts. We can see how Macbeth went from a well respected man to becoming greedy and wanting everything to fulfil the witches prophecies. The character of Lady Macbeth was a strong influence on Macbeth and his actions at the beginning and then he started to act on his own to get what he wanted. The actors in the movie were amazing. They portrayed their characters flawlessly. As I was watching the movie I could actually feel the charisma that they brought to the screen; they made you either love or hate their character throughout the play. The director of the film, Roman Polanski did an excellent job with the quality of the film. He combined all the elements of a movie, cinematography, editing, lighting, sound, and design to create the exact mood and atmosphere that the play was intended to be seen in. Roman Polanski also assisted in writing the screen play. He also worked his magic by cutting out non-essential parts of the play, to the movie, but in doing so he added a dream that King Macbeth had during the middle of the movie, after he hires the murders to kill Banquo. I believe that this was a dramatic effect created by Polanski, to show some more twists in the plot of Macbeth.
