...hat the forces of Darkness/the weird sisters played a bigger part in the story than simple human ambition; which many believe was the reason for Macbeth’s downfall. One scene in particular which I discussed in class to prove that darkness was in control of the whole show was that of Hecate’s meeting with the wierd sisters(also known by some as “The Fates” from Greek mythology)[3/5/1-33]. In this scene, Hecate appears to them angry for not consulting with her in the matters of foretelling Macbeth his fate. This scene gives the impression that the weird sisters were simply “playing” with Macbeth’s mind to see if he was actually going to do anything to achieve Kingship of Scotland.Yet there is a problem with this scene to be used as evidence to prove the total control of the play by the forces of evil. Many say that since this scene wasn’t written personally by Shakespeare ,but put in as a later addon to the play, it can’t be used as evidence to prove the manipulation of darkness in the play. I believe that if this scene wasn’t important the writer’s wouldn’t have included it in the play itself; even if wasn’t written by Shakespeare himself it is still evidence. The weird sisters,although do play a very important part, aren’t the only characters that influence Macbeth during the course of the story. Lady Macbeth ,though over-looked by scholars, I believe plays an equally important if not greater role than those of the sisters in influencing Macbeth’s decision to take the crown of Scotland and become king(1/7/1-95).
