love
...would go for her, that after some grieving he would be able to go out and find somebody new to love. Then he continues to say, “All this, all of this love we’re talking about, it would just be a memory. Maybe not even a memory”. How could anybody just up and forget about somebody they loved so much just because they passed away? If he truly loved Terri she would always have a place in his heart. Granted, he would someday be able to love again, his memory of her and all the good times they spent together should never fade away. This statement alone shocked me and I realized Mel doesn’t really have a clue what true love is. This also shocked Terri and made her stop and consider their relationship; she grabbed Mel by the wrist and asked him if he was drunk. Mel becomes very defensive to this and “fixes his eyes on her” telling Terri he is just speaking his mind and does not mean he is drunk. Mel feels threatened in someway by Ted’s “dying love” for Terri, and realizes he may not be able to love Terri as much as Ted did. Terri tries to reassure Mel that the love Ted had for her was much different then their love and all she wants for him to do is admit it. Mel, on the other hand, becomes very defensive and tells her more than once, “If you call that love, you can have it”. This is a very insecure thing for Mel to say about his love for her and the love Terri had for Ted. Terri, however, tries not to seem bothered by Mel’s rude remarks and finishes of her gin and tonic and awaits the next bottle. As the day turns into night Mel continues telling his stories and becoming depressed. Mel keeps trying to tell the story of the old couple in the car accident but keeps getting sidetracked. Terri makes a comment to Mel about talking like a drunk and he got very defensive. Mel quietly said to her, “Just shut up for once in your life.” “Will you do me a favor and do that for a minute?”. Terri doesn’t know how to respond to this and looks around the room to see everybody elses reaction to this. Nick notices how anxiouse Terr...
