Another reason, which Lord of the Flies is similar to human civilization, is power. In this book the symbol of power is the conch is their power, ours is money. Whoever had the conch was the only one aloud to speak. Usually the people in our society have all the say. “Ralph smiled and held up the conch for silence.”(Page 20) Look how much power it has, all he did was hold it up and everyone was silent. When he blew into the conch it made a very loud sound, which there was meeting to be held. In our world the big money makers get most of the say of what goes on.
