This, of course, breaks Tita and Pedro's hearts since they are so madly in love with each other. Mama Elena offers Pedro instead to marry Tita's sister, Rosaura. Understanding that there is no possibility in marrying Tita, just so he could be closer to Tita, he accepts the marriage. However, Pedro never feels any love for Rosaura. Meanwhile, Tita stays at home everyday, cooking and feeling depressed. Constantly yelling and scolding, Mama Elena did not make things any easier on Tita and always expected her full obedience. Tita could hardly talk to Pedro either since Mama Elena was constantly watching like a hawk, and would severely punish Tita if caught.
