... community out side Berbant in 1853. Early on Van Gogh was alienated as a social out cast. His only true friend through his entire life would be his brother Theo. In his early to mid teens, Van Gogh worked in an art gallery, which he loved, but was forced to leave after severe bouts with mental depression. Yearning for something more meaning full in his life, so around 1877 he trained to join the Ministry. Failing to gain a Position in the church, Van Gogh traveled to a small mining town of Borniage to minister to the poor. It is here in this small town that Van Gogh discovered his emerging talent. Van Gogh was only an artist for that last ten years of his life. Between 1880 and 1890 he produce more then 2,000 works of art, often completing a painting a day.
